Event Review – Nomadic Belfast Bakery Roadshow 2015

Nomadic Belfast Bakery Roadshow

The Nomadic Bakery Roadshow held Wednesday 25th February 2015 on board the SS Nomadic in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter

A one day bakery pop-up extravaganza, O’Brien Ingredients invited customers to meet the O’Brien team, see our extended product range, taste what’s new and enjoy our bakery experience. The SS Nomadic, tender to the Titanic and last remaining White Star Line ship in the world, provided a spectacular back drop to over 400 recipe ideas from the O’Brien’s technical team, every recipe made using O’Brien Ingredients products.

Upon arrival, customers were served a High Tea Tasting Menu, before visiting different bakery themes laid out over the two floors of the ship. The upper deck took customers to Cherbourg, to view and taste a range of continental breads, high class chocolate work and fine patisserie. Next down into the belly of the ship, commodity conversations took hold and deals were brokered on flour, yeast, fats, margarines, greasing agents, dairy, egg, sugar, icings, jams, fruit and nuts.

In the Novelty, Packaging & Accessories room Linda Edwards, of the Windsor Bakery Banbridge, showcased her skills as one of the finest cake decorators in the country. Linda demonstrated techniques used in making novelty and wedding cakes with Satin Ice roll-out icing. Cakes included an Ulster Fry, a pint of Guinness, a Belfast pub scene and a golfing scene. The ‘showstopper’, a maritime themed cake, was donated to Donard School in Banbridge after the event.

Customers then moved on to an Irish themed display of traditional cakes, breads and Irish recipes with a modern twist. All the Irish breads on display were made by our customers using our ingredients; these included Ashers Baking Co (Belfast), French Village Bakery (Belfast), Jeffers Home Bakery (Lisburn) and Mackey’s Home Bakery (Lisburn). The customer journey finally finished up in New York with an all American range of innovative recipes from Dawn Foods. A wealth of uniquely flavoured and eye-catchingly finished donuts, cookies, roulades, cupcakes, American scones, French fancies, cream pies, ring cakes, vortex cakes, bundt cakes, gateaux, tarts and brownies were on display.

Customers from bakeries all across Ireland attended the event and availed of exclusive show only offers from respected bakery trade brands including AAK, ADM Milling, Dawn Foods, Dossche Mills, Flemings, Ireks, Lakeland Dairies, Rock Brand, Satin Ice roll-out icing and Schokinag chocolate. Further entertainment on board included Spin the Wheel, Photobooth and a Goodie Bag Treasure Map with lots of bakery utensils to find and collect at all the displays spread out over the 2 floors.

Celebrating 50 years in business, our bakery roadshows are designed to showcase our comprehensive range of new and existing products and services available to all of our customers and to help inspire new ideas so that our customers can grow from strength to strength. All food remaining at the end of the Nomadic Belfast Bakery Roadshow was donated to the Welcome Organisation for the homeless in Belfast.
